I know they started adding some pretty good memory management in 9.2, but tbh it was nothing compared to real protected memory and whatnot that X has. It took a while, but like many other people I grew to love X, even if it did take some time.Īnd I loved how stable it became. I loved the improvements in web browsing as soon as we got Safari. I hated the new file permissions and fucking around with kexts, I hated how it dropped real ADB support so I had to buy a new Wacom tablet. I really loved how a fully functional system folder was small enough to fit on a Zip disk, with room to spare for some utilities. I loved how you could "see" everything and the single-user nature of the whole thing made a lot more sense to me (I never really used At Ease or OS 9's multiple users functionality). I still miss the responsive, almost tactile feedback you had pre-X. A lot of people (myself included) didn't change until 10.2, and even then I still had a LOT of software which needed classic. Like you I didn't really like X to start with.
